The process involves a new calling web server and existing remote servers at NIST, DOD and NASA. The user browses to the calling server. The calling server uses standard CGI scripting to contact the remote servers. The remote servers retrieve the desired information from their databases, format it and return it to the calling server. The calling server combines and formats the results using state of the art XML and XSL, returning HTML to the user’s browser. |

| Emad Hammoud |
In a nutshell I have been developing user systems since the 70's, client/server since the 80's, dynamic data-driven web applications since the early 90's, survived the Y2K crisis at DARPA, and presently integrating more Active Directory & all types of scripting for 21st century modules. Most of these systems are SQL-based. With the advent and popularity of the Windows 2000 server operating system, have also integrated SQL 7.0 and Active Directory as resource for validation, control, and security on web sites. Researching XML & WSH scripting for true cost/time savings without uprooting existing systems. Applied efficient modularity for usage of new tools. In problem-solving or decision-making situations, always sought solutions with calculated risk and common-sense reality |

The Extranet for Security Professionals (ESP) project began at DARPA as a “Lotus-Notes like” productivity web portal for the security community that includes collaborative document development, forums, calendar, secure mail (with positive read-receipt), document library, classified advertising, and more. Administration of the site was designed to allow authenticated users to create their own “communities” and authenticate more people into the system so that very little administration was needed. After initial success, several members of the team “took it commercial” and now have a profitable ASP offering this product as their flagship. |

Multi-location call center system for tracking patient applications for health insurance reimbursement and managing distribution of drug shipments. Also helps manage indigent patients applications to qualify for free drug programs. Integrated with word processing to manage a complete correspondence with doctors, insurance company, and patients. Data is never lost from the system; uncommitted data is cached in local disk and can be recovered in case the client is interrupted, and a complete image of every record is managed on the server to insure that data even relational table updates will not impact reporting. Uses VFP on the front end, and SQL Server. |

This system supports NAVSEA in the initial design phase of shipbuilding, and several Navy maintenance activities. SEALINk is a web based design tool that is used to identify equipment that can fill a specific requirement in a ship design. It uses an inverted index to allow searching by the functionality (size, color, weight, volts, etc.) of all known Navy equipment to locate everything that will fit a given need. The system goes further in collecting data from Navy maintenance records to identify which parts are good or poor maintenance choices and the relative logistical costs in order to identify a best-value product. |
